Below are seven map samples of the Mount Washington vicinity. All of these maps
are available for purchase, so there's undoubtedly one here to suit your needs!
The first map can be ordered here, and the others can
be found at many places around Mt. Washington, such as the Observatory's Resource
Center, AMC's Pinkham Notch Visitor Center, or several of the local stores.
The sections below are all scanned at the same scale. Each section represents a 3" x 2"
area of the real thing. For ease of comparison, all of the samples below are roughly centered
on Tuckerman Ravine.

USGS topo maps $4.00 / United States Geological Survey
These are the "standard" of all topographic maps. The USGS maps are full-color, 1:24,000
scale maps with elevation contours for every 100 feet. Approximate trail locations are
shown on the 7½° quadrants, which are available not only for Mount Washington,
but for most of the United States as well! |

Bradford Washburn map: Mt. Washington $4.95 / Appalachian Mountain Club
This fine topographic map was mastered by Bradford Washburn of the Boston Museum of Science.
The large, 26" x 36" full-color map shows the entire presidential range, with
Mt. Washington in the center. Buildings, trails, roads, and rivers are all
depicted on the 1:20,000 map. |

Bradford Washburn map: Tuckerman Ravine $3.95 / Appalachian Mountain Club
Similar to Washburn's Mt. Washington map, this one focuses just on
Tuckerman Ravine. The incredibly small scale (1:5,000) map is contoured
every 40 feet in elevation. It shows in precise detail the locations and shape
of rock features, trails, and headwall in general. The Hermit Lake shelters
are also on the map. |

Close-up Map & Guide $4.50 / Wilderness Map Company
This six-color, 18" x 12" map covers W-E from a mile west of the Cog Railway Base Station
to Wildcat Mountain, and N-S from Mt. Jefferson to a half mile south of Glen Boulder.
The scale is 1:26,700 and it has generalized elevation contours for every
100 feet. On the reverse is some general information along with 49 useful trail
descriptions/ratings. |

AMC Guide to Mount Washington and the Presidential Range $12.95 / Appalachian Mountain Club
This is a companion map to the most popular hiking trail guide in
print for Mt. Washington. The four-color chart features all hiking trails, rivers, roads, and
100 foot elevation contours. Magnetic longitude lines are featured for use with
compasses. It even has an accident report form on the reverse!

New Hampshire Atlas & Gazetteer $16.95 / DeLorme
This newly-revised atlas by DeLorme shows just about every street in New
Hampshire. The state is broken up into about three dozen full-page topographic
maps, along with street maps of over 60 cities and towns. The Mount Washington
region even has all the popular trails shown. The scale of the full-color state maps
is 1:100,000. |

North Conway tourist map FREE / Resort Maps, Inc.
This four-part map can be picked up for free at many locations throughout the
Mt. Washington Valley. It covers from just north of the mountain down to
Conway, NH. It's not a realistically-scaled map, but a pictorial map showing
the locations and appearance of the local restaurants, lodgings, and tourist
spots. Surrounding the four map sections are advertisements from these various
places. |
