Backcountry Parking Permit Info
To help support preservation efforts in the White Mountains, anyone parking in roadside lots in the White Mountain
National Forest are required to obtain a parking permit to display in their vehicle. The permit, costing $20,
can be obtained from any local USFS ranger station or at the Appalachian Mountain Club's Pinkham Notch Visitor Center
on Route 16 just east of Mt. Washington. Just remember to display your pass when leaving your car at any of the
various trailhead parking areas!
Free Parking
Free parking is available at any of the major attractions in the WMNF, particularly at Pinkham Notch Visitor Center
on Route 16. If you are hiking up the west side of the mountain, you may park for free at the Cog Railway, but
we ask that you use the lower lots, so as to allow passengers of the Railway easier access to the station.
RV Parking
RV parking is limited, and hookups are only available for selected lots at the Dolly Copp Campground on Route 16 just north
of the Auto Road entrance, or about 5 miles south of Gorham, NH. Small RVs may fit in some parking lots, but if you are
going hiking, it is recommended you arrive by car.
